A mid-week adventure

Trip from Wembury to Stock Gabriel, along the south Devon coast and up the river Dart.
around 40 mile unsupported overnighter , left Wembury at 1545 on Tuesday the 16th of July, arrive at Stock Gabriel at 1300 on Wednesday 17th.

I fixed up a few patches from the board sitting out side for the winter. added some foot patches and some elastic cord to strap gear down with.

equipment....
the view of the deck, map used, it was mad it up by 'cut and paste' on paint shop, it meant that some of the legs were longer than I was expecting......

early on, a view from my board, between Wembury Beach and Stock Beach

'a hot and sweaty selfy', i think i got through about 6 liter of fluid and finshed slightly dehydrated...

arriving at the beach where i stayed  just as thesun was setting, just east of Salcome

camp, you can just about make out the board in the middle of the screen

  early leave, 0600

sun up between prawle  and start point

rounding start point, just before it got hetic, there was a good bit of tidal race whiping round the last part of the headland, pushing me south, out to sea, half an hour of hard paddling to Stockenham to get out of the main effect....

fini, me finishing, you can see the board is sitting pretty low in the water,

the plywood bulk head are rotten (should have treated them on the build) I think the board might be nearing the end of it usable life, it took on a fair bit of water, I could feel the water inside and the stablity begining to go, having to sponge out water every 30 minute or so.

A fun mid week adventure

The 16 mile paddle

We completed the Newquay to Padstow paddle in 4hours and 22minutes.
Real good day, flat and little wind but not to say it wasnt hard!
Along the way we had the pretty spectacular north Cornish coast as well as  spoting sunfish and dolphin which swan in the bow wave for a bit! all in all  another  good outing for the board, coming in to its own with stability and handling through chop (the ax bow cutting through rather than slammin!)

I did my first race on the board today, 15km from Darmouth to Totnes (Devon), was hard going alot was into the wind but me and the board made it up there, and back. 15th overall 6th in the 12'6'' class, pretty stoked with that!

a real sea trial at the begin of febuary, real still everning but a slight bit of ground swell, the board was flying, kicks slightly to the right and stalls very slighty when in the troths, still got a little hole somewhere, think it is in the same place.

A hole

Found a, and hopefully the only hole where water was coming in, using a vacuum and some tissue paper, sealing of the inspection hatch and sucking the air out found the hole to be in the handle, so any water coming over the bow/ nose was draining out of the handle and into the board/ not down the drainage pipe.
Hindsight probably should have tested the pressure before going on the water?
